I want to tell you about my friend Michaelle or "Meesh". She is a wife, sister, daughter, incredible aunt, farmer, and a badass fighter who has Cystic Fibrosis (CF). If you aren't familiar, CF is a disease where the lungs make access mucus making it hard to breathe and creates other health issues. A CF patient born in Meesh's generation has a life expectancy of about 37 years old. Meesh just turned 44. Life expectancy for a CF patient has improved significantly over the years. CF patients born in this decade are projected to live into their 60's. I want to help improve lives of those affected by CF.
In Meesh's honor, I'm fundraising for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation by participating in their Xtreme Hike in Yosemite National Park in October 2024. It amazes me that Meesh hasn't given up on life after a double lung transplant and several surgeries to remove cancer, a biproduct of her required transplant medications. She may die of cancer before her lungs stop working. Continued funding is important until there is a cure.
When I'm not enjoying yoga outside, connecting with friends, food prepping, or wearing my silly mom hat with my 2-year-old daughter, I create custom wellness retreats near my home in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. It is my honor to create a retreat for women who want to celebrate the badass in themselves while supporting a good cause. A percentage of profits from this retreat will go to fundraise for the Xtreme Hike organized by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help fund cystic fibrosis research. This wellness retreat is for women who are nature enthusiasts, busy moms, and heart-led female entrepreneurs. We will pamper our bodies, nurture our soul, and remind us that we are truly incredible beings. More details coming soon.
No matter what challenges we face, I believe we can choose to overcome obstacles by having a growth mindset. We can empower ourselves to live with eyes and hearts wide open. This Xtreme Hike in Yosemite will be a challenge for me, but I have a year to prepare. I gain strength from Meesh as I prepare for this adventurous hike and honor her as I share her CF story. I believe we all could learn from her strength and live our best lives as she continues to live hers.
